Making Whiskey Sours out of Lemons.

I hope you are all doing your best to stay sane during this challenging time. Maybe you discovered a new passion for baking sourdough bread, finished watching everything on Netflix, are able to put a t-shirt on while in a handstand, have planted a vegetable garden or perfected the perfect afternoon nap; it’s all great if it helps you feel good.
I’ve been finding comfort in running along the Great Highway, walking my sweet dog Hazel, jigsaw puzzling, zoom yoga classes and perfecting my whiskey sour. Thank heaven for my lemon tree.
As I’m sure you’re all aware, the shelter in place order has been extended until May 31st. I know many of you feel that massage is essential (I think so too!) but it is in our best interest to adhere to the social distancing protocol until we find a way to minimize the chance of spreading this super scary and sneaky virus. So, I’ll continue to stay closed until San Francisco gives businesses like mine the green light. And when that green light comes, I will be at a new location. After 12 years on Judah Street, Raise the Bar Fitness (RTB) closed the studio but they’re keeping the Taraval gym open. I’ll be moving my practice to 1655 Taraval and will follow the series of COVID-19 business practices, including sanitation protocols outlined by the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals in addition to any other rules set forth by the city’s public health department.
I feel so supported by this wonderful community of clients. If you are looking for other ways to support our wonderful neighborhood, be sure to check out #SunsetStrong’s guide to shopping locally. I’m not sure if they’re listed on #SunsetStrong but I do know Le Trio, the Vietnamese Cafe on the corner of Judah and 31st Ave. (also owned by the fantastic guys at RTB) is open for take out and delivery and they’ve got special menus available for family style meals.
I’ll reach out again once I have a firm date for re-opening. In the meantime, you can always check the website for other updates. I miss you all and hope you continue to exercise patience and kindness with yourselves and all those around you.

Shelter In Place Extension & New Office

With a new date set for our shelter in place order, my practice will remain closed through May 3rd.

I miss you all very much; not just as clients but as my neighbors, teachers, and my extended community. Now more than ever, I appreciate so much that you choose to spend such precious time in my care. I watched this video a few days ago and it made me so happy; I hope it has the same effect on you. Let’s keep doing our best to be kind and patient with each other, remembering that we truly are in this together.

After 12 years on Judah Street, Raise the Bar Fitness has decided to vacate that location. The good news is, they’ve offered me an office at their Taraval location and so, if businesses like mine are allowed to re-open on May 4th, I will be at 1655 Taraval Street.

I can’t thank you enough for your gift card and package purchases. It has helped tremendously to ease the financial strain of not working. I am eager to get back to work but also realize that our collective safety during this time is paramount. I’m committed to following all recommended precautions in an effort to provide a safe and relaxing environment for each of you. I can’t wait, but I will wait … because it’s important. 🙂

Temporary Office Closure

In accordance with San Francisco’s shelter in place order, my office will be closed until April 7th. I will cancel all sessions via Genbook and you’ll get an email confirmation once I’ve done so. If you have an appointment that you would like to reschedule, you can do so online at wandapierce.com or contact me directly for help doing so. I will be adding some days to my schedule to make up for lost time which means it might be easier to book with me once the order is lifted.

Until such time, I hope you find ways to practice self care, kindness and patience as we are all truly in this together. I am so grateful to each of you for your support and look forward to seeing you very soon.

To those of you who have pre-purchased packages and gift certificates, thank you! Your generosity is humbling. Gift certificates never expire and now packages won’t either.

I’ll be posting updates here from time to time and sharing the silver linings I am sure to see during this mandatory staycation.

Ps, I learned that Ocean Beach Yoga is offering online live stream video classes providing a great way to achieve some inner peace. Walks are still allowed and with the days getting longer, they provide a great way to clear the cobwebs and breathe fresh air. 🙂

In these times of COVID-19

Tensions are high as we get updates from our local officials, the CDC and the World Health Organization on COVID-19. The good news is that I believe we are all doing our best to get ourselves through this challenging time. It’s important to be respectful of everyone’s unique approach to staying safe; whether you are feeling the need to collect supplies and hunker down for the next few weeks or find refuge in a massage. If you are considering the latter I want to let you know the added steps I’m taking to create a safe space for you to relax, unwind and find refuge for a little bit.

I’m now using disinfectant wipes on the face cradle and other surfaces you might come in contact with between each session.

As usual, every client gets a fresh set of sheets and I always wash my hands thoroughly before and after each session. Now I’m singing Happy Birthday twice while I do so. I now keeping hand sanitizer in the massage room which I apply before and after entering.

For the time being I’m skipping face massage and refraining from using eye pillows.

While I appreciate advance notice whenever possible, I will NOT be enforcing my cancellation policy for the foreseeable future so if you are feeling under the weather, please stay home and take care of yourself without concern for penalty.

We are all in learning mode here and so if there is something I’m not doing that you believe I should, please don’t be shy. I welcome any suggestions that will help people feel safe in my care.  .

Happy & Healthy 2020! Plus new rates and some gratitude.

Thank you for supporting my work in 2019. I feel so fortunate to do this work and for the relationships I have with each one of you. Whether you visit once a year or you’re a weekly client – you are all special to me in unique ways. Here we are again at the beginning of a new year and the promise of great things to come. Surely the year will also come with its challenges and disappointments but we have freedom to decide how we react.

Speaking of reactions, San Francisco’s permitting regulations surrounding massage therapists was a great example of how NOT to react. But even in the scariest moments, I felt so grateful to those of you who wrote your supervisors and offered support, professional advice and experience. I’m still sorting through the bureaucracy and trying to find a way to achieve compliance.

Beginning February 1st, my rates will increase by $10. If you purchased a package in 2019, the old rates will apply for the remaining sessions.

I’m excited for this new year partly because I feel pretty clear about how I’d like to be in it. One commitment I’m making to myself is to follow a media diet consisting of more inspiring and uplifting subjects – things that will help me ask more beautiful questions and help me see more good in the world. New Year, new hours

Happy New Year! 2018 seemed to fly by for me. Still I managed to take some time off, spend lots of time outdoors and carve time out to recognize how incredibly fortunate I am to have work that nourishes my soul, a wonderful cast of clients, a loving home in this beautiful Sunset neighborhood and great health. Thank you for supporting the work I do!

I’m determined to manage my time better in 2019; in light of that, I’ve changed my schedule a bit in hopes that I’ll have more options available for those of you who’ve mentioned that scheduling with me is becoming a challenge. It’s a work in progress and I’m open to suggestions.

I’ve also made a decision to stop taking new clients for outcall visits. If you’re already an existing outcall client, don’t worry – nothing changes for you.

The Final Tally – Norcal Fire Relief Fundraiser

I’m am beyond thrilled to report that together we raised $1413.00 for the Redwood Credit Union’s North Bay Fire Relief Fund.  The last eGift card to push us over the $1400 mark came in just shy of midnight.

I delivered a check in person to the branch at 1390 Market Street later today.

Thank you to all of you who came to see me on Saturday for a massage and to all of you who purchased eGift cards for future use!

UPDATE: October 28 Fundraiser for those affected by Norcal fires

I’m happy to say I’m booked solid this Saturday, October 28th! In case you didn’t know, I decided to open my doors for business this Saturday and will donate 100% of my earnings to Redwood Credit Union’s North Bay Fire Relief Fund. Redwood Credit Union (RCU) is covering all administration costs so that 100% of what I/you donate will go to victims and relief efforts.

But don’t fret … if you’d still like to participate but weren’t able to book an appointment.  I’m increasing the fundraising potential by introducing eGift cards for my services. It’s not the handmade card anymore but it’s quick and easy and if you buy an eGift card on Saturday, October 28th, I’ll donate 100% of that to RCU as well. I’ll post an update on Monday morning announcing the grand total.

Doctors’ orders.

Here’s an article validating the effectiveness of drug free approaches to pain.  I lean toward starting with the path of least resistance.  A hot bath with epsom salt is my number one go to approach to back pain or muscle strain.  Oh, and that genius approach called resting.  It’s a smart idea but for some of us it’s so hard to do, so get a massage; it’s kind of the perfect happy compromise.
